Another goal: Write a novel
So I've come to terms that I'm not going to be writing the Great American Novel. I don't have delusions of grandeur in this regard. I do want to do NaNoWriMo though.I'm talking about National Novel Writing Month. The month in question in this case is November. A novel, by their definition, is a work of fiction that's more than 50,000 words. Why?It's just because I want to say that I've written a novel. I seem to want to do a lot of things for that reason. It must be a character flaw of mine. My way of collecting experiences I suppose. But why not? Do I lose anything because I do it? (other than time... but I'm thinking of it like mental exercise)In one of my (very infrequent) dreams I think I might have come up with a plot hook. Now I just need to come up with some meaning and characters. While I can't do any writing before November, I can do some thinking about the plot and characters and whatnot so it gives me a bit to chew on for a few months. And the 50,000 words? At this point in this post I'm up to nearly 200 words and it only took me a few minutes -- and I have to think about what I am saying. When I'm writing in the voice of a character I can just write what they are doing. Not just that but I don't even have to edit any of it... the draft counts just fine.I think I'll post the finished product on the blog here for people to point and laugh. I'm in the kindergarten of fictional writing so don't expect anything too great. So, does anyone want to join me in this little marathon for our keyboard fingers?
