W8DFL QSL Cards - 4/18/2011
Update: SmugMug is back up!I'll start by saying that for a country as small as Luxembourg, there seems to be a disproportionate number of hams. We have five QSL cards from there. All from a country that's less than 1000 square miles. For perspective (and this might make sense to folks in northeast Ohio) this is a country that's smaller that Cuyahoga County (the county that Cleveland resides in)The first card I'm showing off is:This is the only one of the bunch that has the operator on it. An interesting bit is that he's wallpapering his radio room with the QSLs and awards he's got. I'll have to go back when I'm done to see if we have any duplicates. No real reason do to that, but why not? :-)Now we move half-way around the globe to Peru:Llama! Or it could be an alpaca... just like the ones we have down the street from us! I'm not expert enough to tell the difference from a sketch. Here's another anachronism: the spelling of Beyrouth instead of the more current Beirut. At the time in 1973, Lebanon was still under the influence of the French Mandate, though it had achieved independence in 1943. Beyrouth is of course the French spelling of the name of the city.As an aside, take a look at the flag for Greater Lebanon at Wikipedia. The merging of flags is not cool. This just reminds me of the Hungarian flag early in the communist era. I hope to get to Lebanon at some point in my life -- it seems like such a beautiful country with such a long history. And last:The QSO took place over wine and beer Mhz! :-D I've heard from En about the travel they've done as an adjunct to the radio and this is another example of it!He's also giving a shout-out to En's grandma - the XYL. The "eX Young Lady." Rude I know, but all male ops are referred to as OM: "Old Man." Ahh -- texting before cell phones!
