To the movies

It's been a long time since we've gone out to the movies; the last movie we've seen in a theater has Avatar.  :shock:So why is that? A few reasons stick out: The presentation quality is so-so for most theaters. Another reason is the theaters around Solon are "meh." Not a cool space and mostly big films. The biggest reason is that people are idiots and talk and more-or-less destroying the experience.Today, in Seattle, things changed. We found our Ceder-Lee: The Harvard Exit Theatre. It's an old building that started life nearly 90 years ago in 1925. It transformed into a movie theater in '68.

Let me take a step back a bit. A week and a half ago I was taking a long walk at lunch from South Lake Union to Capitol Hill and back listening to a podcast of This American Life. I was listening to the "Fear of Sleep" episode that originally aired on September, 2nd. Mike Birbiglia had just 5 minutes before finished his segment about sleepwalking. Ira came in the segue to push the movie that was (at then) soon coming out: Sleepwalk With Me. It was followed by another segment with cockroaches crawling in people's ears.I turned right onto Roy from Broadway and looked to my left. There was the Harvard Exit Theatre. There on the marquee: Sleepwalk With Me.!!!

Today we went to the theater after a bite at the bar next door.No one talked during the movie. The presentation was real film. The movie was really good too. (It's odd seeing Mike and just just hearing him on the radio)The cool thing is that this is only 10 minutes from our house! I love this city!
