Training
Yesterday Ennie, a co-worker, and I went to a trap shooting range to shoot some trap.Well, more than that... the club had brought in a husband-and-wife team of trainers to help us all shoot better. The interesting thing is that even though I was getting better as I shot more, I learned more in the two or three hours of coaching (and not even one-on-one coaching at that) than I'd learned in 20 hours in the past.Mind you, if you saw me before and after you'd be hard pressed to see any differences. The changes were quite subtle. Open my stance a bit. Shoulder the gun a bit higher. Alter my grip of the fore-end. Change how I lead the target. Watch the target more. The two of them didn't shoot a single clay. I don't even know if they shoot well. The interesting thing is that it doesn't even matter. Phelps' coach, I'm sure can't swim nearly as well as Michael Phelps can -- though I'm sure he can swim better than me.I'm really seeing the benefit to this stuff. I know it's simple and obvious, but it's interesting to experience it personally.
