Machines

I guess I'm in a motorcycle rut lately with what I'm thinking about on a day-to-day basis. I messed up my recent repair with installing a fuel pump gasket all wonky which led to leaking gas all over the place. But with that said, I'm still pretty confident about working on my bike (I just have to be more careful with following directions).Over on AdvRider.com there's all sorts of threads with folks really tearing into their machines.When it comes down to it, engines are pretty simple machines. Same with the rest of the bike.Sure, some repairs are fairly involved because you have to take damn near everything off the bike... but a lot of steps doesn't make it complex, you just need to have the space and the organization to make it happen. For instance if I wanted to split the engine's case, I'd had to remove the bike from the engine since the engine is a stressed member of the bike. There's a bunch of wires and such that need to be removed, but it's not hard. The front and rear subframes come off, then unbolt the transmission and what you have left is an engine.Me doing that would take a day to get to the engine.But I don't have a garage to keep things.Meh...

Amazingly, when talking to En, she agreed that me working on a bike in the family room might be acceptable. (!)If I happen to find an old BMW from the 70's I might pick it up if it's generally in good shape. Then restore it. :-) The old bikes happen to be a lot easier to work on anyway.
