Victory by silence
The Supreme Court of the United States declined to hear the appeal from gay marriage opponents today.Today Indiana, Oklahoma, Utah, Virginia and Wisconsin's appeal, by not being accepted upholds the lower court decision for marriage equality in those states. For the first time more than half of the population of the US has equal access to the same rights that were had by opposite-sex couples since the beginning.Since allowing same-sex marriage in Washington, the state where I live, society hasn't collapsed. In fact nothing has changed at all. The same people still live here. The same couples are couples. The only difference is their status.Even though the SCOTUS didn't make a nation-wide change, this tips the balance to the side that seems to be winning at this point.I'm happy about that.
