Stretchy rope repair

The back seat of my bike has a cool little compartment that can be used to stash damn near anything small.It has a problem though. The rubber part that keeps things in the compartment in the compartment has deteriorated over the past eight years.(Has it really been that long?! crap.)The parts at the end used to be loops that hooked onto the seat bottom. Those have long since gone. I solved the problem temporarily with some big o-rings I had lying around, but even the next holes started to get cracks in them...I tried to reach out to the maker of the seat, Sargent Saddles, a while back but they never got back to me.Last week I had an idea. Why not get some stretch cord to take the place of the sheet of rubber? It's cheap and I can even make the argument that it saves weight.So I did and ordered up 25 feet of it from Amazon for around $5.00 (prime shipping included!).Here's the result:The stuff there was just what was there beforehand... here's what it looks like with the first aid:And there's still a bit of space for registration and whatnot.The nice thing is that things go in and out just about as easily as they did before except I'm not worried about it just falling out altogether. In case of a real emergency you can just unhook the cord altogether and have everything pop out in an instance.Alternately, you can use it to patch a tent maybe.  :-)
