Why M?

It's clear that I got an M. After literally three decades of hemming and hawing I have one.Aside: Yes, I've wanted an M ever since I saw an M6 in Pop Photo so many years ago. It was my grail camera back then. Its descendents remained that until Monday when it arrived at the mail room at work. So, why did I get it?Small and invisible. As small and invisible as a full frame camera is going to get. These are apples-to-apples comparisons.Above you have an SLR in the form of a Canon 5DmkII next to a Leica M-P typ 240. Both are wearing a 50mm f/1.4 lens.As I was walking around Pike Market yesterday over lunch I was taking pictures. It's a touristy place, no doubt. But As I was pointing the rig at people no one flinched. It's a small camera.Next, let's move to the 35mm.This isn't really fair though. The Leica (on the right of course) has it's integral shade on while the Sigma doesn't. Both are f/1.4 35mm lenses though. Why? Because size. Because invisibility.Because I feel like I'm holding a camera -- like I remember the X-700 feeling.I'm practicing with the manual focus still. Getting better. Almost as fast as the AF in the Canon. Though I'm not going to track a moving subject to save my life.Which gets to the other point: these are complimentary tools. Like I have both a chair and a recliner; a car and a motorcycle; boots and running shoes.Horses for courses. This course is giving me some happy feels though.
