Gear Insurance
A while back, before we moved to Seattle, I had all my my camera gear insured. My camera gear, at the time, consisted of the Canon kit. I also had a rider for the firearms and jewelry. This isn't something that you think of too much normally, but it certainly paid off in spades when I had my motorcycle crash up in Labrador. You know, that time my motorcycle landed on my camera. At the time, and I'm fairly certain it was Allstate then, they just wrote a check for a new lens and the repair of the camera. No questions. (Well, it was an all peril policy, so other than intentional destruction or floods, it's all good.Fast forward to now and I've been carting around a bag full of Leica gear and it's almost an order of magnitude more expensive than the Canon gear that I was schlepping about. All it takes is a drop or a rogue thief to really ruin my day.I decided to finally get insurance on the lot again. Not that I really want to be in a position to use it, but at the same time I'm way happier knowing that if something bad happens that I don't have to break open the bank to get things fixed. This time it's with Travelers -- who also do my homeowners' insurance. It's not something you think about often... but when you need it, you really need it.
