More bike mods - LEDs!
For a goodly while I've been running HID (High Intensity Discharge) headlights on my bike. I replaced the stock ones back from when I was running the 2007 GS. I tried to move the setup over to the 2009 but the CANBUS electronics wanted to see more of a load. But that's not here or there. The reason I did the upgrade was for safety. The stock H7 bulbs put out a bunch of light, but not nearly enough in my opinion. I replaced them for the HID for the added light they put out. They're roughly twice as good. There's a lot of warnings out there to not replace the bulbs for HID since they can cause a big change in the beam pattern, but that didn't really affect mine. So, why upgrade to LED (Light Emitting Diode) lights? Safety -- again. The problem with the HIDs is that they take a little time to warm up. The first few seconds after they turn on they barely put out any light. This might not sound like a big deal, but when you're trying to flash lights to warn someone of something (or maybe to just get them to move over when they're driving like Seattle assholes parked in the left lane) it really does make a difference.Hell, just going down a dark street is reason enough. When you want light, you want it right away, not in a minute.
