On the apportionment of credit and blame

One oftentimes sees figures in sports and politics giving credit to God when something good happens and accepting blame when something doesn't go their way. It's seen as immodest to take glory for works.The opposite happens in many cases as well, someone can take credit for something going in the right direction. If, on the other hand, something goes amiss it's random noise in the data or something similar.I can't seem to wrap my head around these, but I have to say that I admire the sportsy people more. While there is a goodly amount of randomness (some might say "luck") playing a role in so many things that surround us, each of us also plays a very active role in making things work, or alternately not work.But you can't be selective in only taking either blame or credit. Accept the credit for a job well done, and also be self-critical when things don't go your way.
