Airmail3
I've been bouncing between email clients for years now, never quite satisfied with my choice. I used to use Mailbox for Gmail, but that was purchased by Dropbox and promptly killed off. For Gmail I typically stuck with the piss-poor web interface. It gets the job done, but lacks the flexibility I was getting with Mailbox. At Amazon we use Exchange, and its native client Outlook is what comes preinstalled. I can't stand Outlook on a Mac. It just sucks being slow and clunky all the time. I need to use it occasionally regardless of the mail client I want to use because Outlook is the only client that can set up email rules that run on the server. That brings us up to last week and here's how it stood before I changed things up again:
- Gmail
- iOS
- Email: Native iOS mail
- Calendar: meh
- MacOS
- Email: Web interface
- Calendar: meh
- iOS
- Exchange
- iOS
- Email: Native iOS mail
- Calendar: Native iOS calendar
- MacOS
- Email: Native Mac mail (with bits of Outlook and Thunderbird for specialty work)
- Calendar: Fantastical 2
- iOS
On a whim I purchased Airmail3 on the Mac Appstore. It's awesome! It lets me scythe through mail on both iOS and MacOS. The feature I like is that I can dispose of emails in a number of different ways. I can hand things off to various programs -- so OmniFocus for tasks, Evernote for notes, Fantastical for meetings, etc. It brings back the "snooze" feature that I loved from Mailbox. The shortcuts actually make sense to me -- like archive vs. delete. For the first time in a long while I got down to effectively email-zero on both Gmail and Exchange. I like it.Based on the Amazon rules I can't connect iOS to Exchange from a non-trusted device... so work emails on iOS still go to the native client... but otherwise, here's the new layout:
- Gmail
- iOS + MacOS
- Email: Airmail3
- Calendar: Fantastical
- iOS + MacOS
- Exchange
- iOS
- Email: Native iOS mail
- Calendar: Fantastical 2
- MacOS
- Email: Airmail 3
- Calendar: Fantastical 2
- iOS
Not having to wade through all of the email cluttering things up is so nice and lets me focus on actually getting things done.As an added bonus, the search feature seems to work properly as well.I don't usually go on and on about programs like this, but damn... this is a game changer for me!
