Master of your own destiny
There's something to be said about holding the keys to your own destiny. When you don't you're certainly in a pickle. If you aren't in control, but are responsible for the outcome, well, I guess you're in a world of hurt, no?The real key is to have an overlap, ideally completely, with the systems you are responsible for and the systems you have control over.Barring that... I don't know what change you can really effect. Being held responsible for things not under your control is something that's not tenable on a long-term basis.
