War

Ennie and I visited Stones River National Battlefield down south of us in Murfreesboro.

There is something very concrete walking through a graveyard of thousands upon thousands of markers -- only a third with names. It's a jarring moment when you walk among the rocks that were used by the men to shield them from the fire of the enemy.

It doesn't matter which side you're on -- these were all Americans who were laying down their lives. Heavy casualties were had by both the Union and the Confederate troops.

The Union prevailed in the end -- both in the battle and the war.

But it doesn't make the ground any less hallowed.
