Collecting roots

I was talking to my brother a bit today, a bit about guitars to be specific. It's something that seems to persist in my collecting habits: collecting good modern examples of historical "important" things. If I buy more guitars I think my next couple are going to be a Fender Telecaster and a Gibson Les Paul. I think the reason really is that at the birth of electric guitars, those two, along with the Stratocaster I just got, these are the the prototypes of much of what came after. But it doesn't have to be the old one. It can be a modern version. In fact, a lot of times the modern version is preferred.I have the same thing with cameras. I have a modern Leica -- and Leica created the 35mm camera. It's the modern embodiment of that concept. The same with guns. Same with a lot of things.I think I finally figured something out about myself.
