From a point of strength

Whenever you are negotiating you need to come from, or at least appear to come from, a position of strength.

When someone knows you're on the back foot it's hard to make demands. It's hard to come to a good and fair point. On the other hand when you're in a better spot than your counterparty you can act more for your own interests and not be beholden as much to your opponent.
