AI Models

Recently I wrote that I decided to try the $200/month model from OpenAI.

It’s good and the all you can eat model of that plan is amazing.

But I’m dropping back to the normal $20/month plan. Why?

Two reasons: Anthropic’s Claude and xAI’s Grok.

Both of these other models are very close to the best that OpenAI has to offer. I tried my tried and tested question about a movie I watched while camping in Western New York waiting for the aliens to pick me up. (Didn’t happen, by the way)

There was a B movie I watched where the antagonist was a skeleton and another character was a woman who thought she was a cat. Rawr. What was this movie? I think it was on an island.

When I tried this with the various models OpenAI had, only o3-mini was able to really nail it. It took 36 seconds to come to the answer.

Grok got it in 24 seconds with as good of an answer.

Claude got it in only six seconds, but the answer wasn’t as long and detailed. But was able to elaborate when asked.

All of these models are shockingly good at coding as well.

So… with the $180/month I’m saving from OpenAI, I snagged a subscription to Anthropic as well.
