Kickoff
Well, Ennie and I are going to be going to Alaska in a little over a month. We’re going to be going on my motorcycle and camping along the way. A lot of this is to get away from work and the normal routine. Not to sound too poetic, but the key is to simplify. There’s only so much you can take on a motorcycle (especially 2-up), so things need to be pared down to their bare essentials.
There’s been a lot of planning that’s been going on to get to where we are now! There’s been a bunch of reading over at www.advrider.com where there’s a lot of similar folks taking long and adventurous trips. There’s a lot to learn from other people’s trips, mistakes and successes. Mistakes we (hopefully) won’t be repeating.
Overall, it’s going to be strange taking a whole month off for me. I’m working hard to tie up loose ends at work to make sure I don’t leave people hanging. The nice thing is that people are actually supportive about the trip and I’ve not gotten any flack from anyone about it. I’m quite lucky that where I work (Insurance.com) allows for such nonsense. En’s not as lucky. Scrimping to get 2 weeks + 2 days off – especially since the rules she was hired under got changed from under her. She should have gotten 3 weeks this year. Make it work, eh? No vacations for the rest of the year I guess. She’ll be flying back from Fairbanks or Anchorage to head back to work.
