NG8B - That's me!
The license grant was official today! No, that's not the card I'll be using, but you get the point.I'm vain and requested the vanity call sign. There's a couple real reasons for it though. First is the problem with the old one that it's really hard to hear. AC8FS is a pain mainly in the "FS" part. I had to phonetically spell it every time it mattered. I know that B has the same problem with V, but it's less of an issue. Most letters seem to have a pair like that too.Second, I wanted a shorter call. No really awesome reason for it other than it being short. Now all I need is a real radio to use it with. I think I'm going to order an ICOM IC7000 and figure out where to put an antenna. My guess is I'll just put up a trapped dipole and hang it up in the trees. I might wire up a vertical for 2m and 70cm and stick it on the chimney as well. Why not? :-)(There's only one problem with it: Google is spammed with it already. That's the model number of a ETON radio... c'est la vie.)(Another side note: why post my address up there with my call sign? Don't I care about privacy? Yes and no... if you check around you can find my address in any number of places online. The best place isn this case is the FCC call sign lookup service. You're just a single search away if you have NG8B already.)
