Down the rabbit hole - Diamantinasaurus Matildae edition

Ennie and I were watching a Nova on PBS. Australia: The First 4 Billion Years.As they were going into something in Winton, Queensland they brought up the dinosaur from the title of the post: the Diamantinasaurus matildae as the host stood by a billabong.This was the start of the rabbit hole.Matildae is a Latin backformation of Matilda.Matilda, of "Waltzing Matilda" fame. It was a song written about events that happened in 1891 where a swagman (sounds like an Australian hobo) was killed. Common history of the song is that it was a cleverly done political statement at the time.It became the most recorded song in Australia.From there it was stuck in my head.Spotify to the rescue.Then the rabbit hole deepened.A search on "Waltzing Matilda" also turned up "And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda."(I'm sure this isn't news to many... but it was to me.)Apparently this is one of the top 30 Australian songs of all time.From the song it went to the military.It seems the song has been a popular military song as well... even now a regiment of the Australian Army and even a division of the Marines use the song as their own.But that's a different hole... the one I was in led me to the first world war.
