Game of Life

I’ve written about Conway’s Game of Life, the cellular automata, here before. The last time I really wrote code for that was probably aroud 30 years ago now.

But I saw a video today:

Toby mentioned it and how it got famous. From Martin Gardner’s Mathematical Games column in Scientific American. That’s one of the places I fell in love with math.

Of course, the publication of that in the magazine was in the October issue in 1970, predating me.

I learned about it myself from Mr. D, the computer teacher at my high school. I made a BASIC program that ran faster than the compiled Pascal that he had.

I think I should give this another life.
