Car Trouble

The Subaru’s been having some issues of late. There has been a rare-ish misfire that seems to happen under moderate load at around 2000 RPM.

The other day En was driving up a local hill to get out of the hollar and, from her description, the dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree. It started to lose power and something was wrong.

Today it’s in the shop.

It’s a 2012 Outback with around 105K miles on the odometer. If it works, then great. But I don’t think it’s worth a huge amount.

My worry is that the estimate will come in over two grand. Which, to me, isn’t worth fixing at this point. It’s been getting more expensive keeping it on the road, and I doubt it’ll become cheaper over time. If the estimate tops that, I think it’s time for a new car.

Now the thing is I don’t want another internal combustion daily driver. An EV would be perfect for my use case. I even have installed a new 50A 240V outlet in the basement/garage.

…sigh…

I guess if I have to replace the Subbie, it’ll likely be with a Tesla Model Y. I’m on the waitlist for a Rivian R2, but I don’t want to wait that long (assuming I need something now), nor do I want to be in the early batch of cars where I’m beta testing things.
